Singapore-based genetic startup Imagene Labs announced that it is going to enter the Indonesian market in July, the company’s spokesperson told e27 at the recent Echelon Asia Summit 2017.

Launched in September 2016, Imagene Labs is a subsidiary of Asia Genomics.

It offers bespoke beauty and wellness product which are tailored according to users’ genetic make-up.

To use this service, first users can order a test kit on a platform called AskOri.com. They will use the test kit to collect their saliva which will then be sent to the company to get tested.

Imagene Labs will then develop report and recommendations that are being divided into three categories: oriVIT (nutrition products), oriSKIN (skincare products), and oriFIT (fitness and weight management products).

Apart from getting recommendations to address issues such as dry skin, users can also purchase supplements and facial serums that are being designed exactly for their genetic make-up. This process can help users get the most suitable treatment and product for their condition.

The startup currently has presence in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Hong Kong. It has laboratories in Singapore and China.

The company’s laboratories is said to be the third in the world and the first in Asia Pacific to receive the Illumina Propel Certification.

Imagene Labs Managing Director Wong Mun Yew told Straits Times that the company’s vision is “to build a pan-Asian business.”

“With a growing middle class, be it in Singapore, China, Thailand, or Indonesia, I think more people will be able to spend more on healthcare and wellness. They will be a key demand driver,” he said.

“There is also a rising interest in self-tracking, called quantified health,” he added.

Genetic testing itself is reported to gain popularity in Singapore, where the National Cancer Centre of Singapore (NCCS) experienced increasing demand for such tests.
