MELAKA: An Indonesian hair stylist who has been misusing the identity card of a local for more than two decades was fined RM5,000 by the Magistrate’s Court in Ayer Keroh here on Thursday (Dec 8).
Magistrate Nabilah Nizam imposed the fine on Linda Crystal, 38, after she pleaded guilty to the offence.
The accused, from Bandung, Indonesia paid the fine on the same day.
Based on the charge sheet, the accused had been in possession of a fake identification card belonging to one “Tan Bee Bee” from Macap Umboo Baru, Alor Gajah, here.
The offence was committed at the National Registration Department (NRD) at the Urban Transformation Centre here at 1pm on Monday (Dec 5).
The accused had tried to check on the status of the identity card at the NRD office when the offence was discovered.
Upon further investigation by NRD, the accused admitted that she had in possession of the identification card for 22 years since she was 16 years old.
The accused also has an Indonesian identification card.
The accused was charged under Rule 25(1)(e) of the National Registration Regulations 1990, for which offenders can be jailed up to three years or fined a maximum of RM20,000 or both, upon conviction.
