What Makes Wavemaker Indonesia the ‘Most Wanted’ Media Agency in Indonesia?


This year marks exactly three years since Amir Suherlan became the new managing director of Wavemaker Indonesia replacing Ajay Gupte. His leadership has resulted in Wavemaker Indonesia further expanding its horizons since this appointment.

During the last two years, Amir Suherlan has made great strides towards building a strong and reliable team, starting with recruiting talented people in their fields, strengthening the existing talent teams, strengthening the existing management, upholding the DE&I principle, and providing opportunities for talents who have the potential to progress. In 2019, we had only 75 people, and today we have more than 200.


Prior to joining Wavemaker Indonesia, Amir Suherlan, an avid runner who takes his dedication in sports into his line of work, was a principal partner at Mindshare Indonesia. From winning and retaining account business and awards, he has been instrumental in leading Mindshare.

As of the beginning of this year, Wavemaker has won a number of new business accounts, such as JDID, Netflix, and recently Mondelez.  Additionally, through a competitive pitch this year, we successfully retained some big accounts like L’Oreal, Danone, and Jenius BTPN. Mondelez is our latest win which has helped strengthen Wavemaker’s portfolio of clients. We have further strengthened our teams in eCommerce, Analytics and Addressability. In Southeast Asia, Indonesia was appointed to be the hub for the Addressable Content, bespoke product that is provoking growth for brands as consumers expect personalization – the key to brand transformation plans. Furthermore, we launched a fully integrated media solutions platform called Beauty Tech Labs for L’Oreal Indonesia in June which has more than 100+ people driving growth solutions for L’Oreal. This strong team member will focus on holistic Media solutions across Planning, Performance, Ecommerce and Influencer Communication.

Last year, Wavemaker bagged multiple awards at Mobex, Wires Global Awards and The Drum Awards and silver for MMA Indonesia and APAC. This helped the team to be driven and focused on innovative solutions for our clients.

This focus has helped add to the awards momentum in 2022 as well and winning a number of awards in local and regional awards ceremonies, including the MMA Smarties Indonesia 2022 Media Agency of The Year and the Grand Prix for the L’Oreal campaign: Saving Salon Communities While Driving Growth In Salon Business. Our work also helped us win at the Festival of Media APAC Cause Campaign Awards 2022, Gold award for Danone #Aqua Dulu campaign at Marketing Excellence 2022. We are also very proud to be the winner of the Gold award for Indonesia Digital Agency of the Year as well as the Indonesia Media Agency of the Year 2022 at Campaign Asia AOY awards.

Wavemaker continues to hold onto to its agency ranking in the market and also being crowned the No.1 Media Agency in the New Business Barometer ranking.
