Illegal beauty centre busted | The Star

KUALA LUMPUR: A complaint by a woman about a botched breast enlargement procedure landed a group of Indonesians operating an illegal beauty centre in detention with the Immigration.

The housewife had complained to the Immigration Department after the procedure at the beauty centre in Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman caused bruising and swelling on one of her breasts.

Kuala Lumpur Immigration Department director Shamsul Badrin Mohshin said it was initially alerted about the beauty centre in February this year.

“We received a complaint from the woman who claimed that her breast became bruised and swollen after she went for an enlargement procedure there.

“We carried out intelligence and found that the premises was closed between July and August after they received a warning from the complainant,” he told reporters yesterday.

He said on Sept 20, the complainant informed the department that the beauty centre had moved to a different premises in the same building under a different name.

“One of our officers then made an appointment for a beauty procedure on Thursday.

“We raided the centre and arrested three women and two men from Indonesia,” he said, adding that an assortment of medical equipment was also seized.

He said checks revealed that the centre had offered procedures such as breast enlargement, Vitamin C injections, veneer treatments and eyebrow threading.

“Further investigations revealed that the workers were conducting these procedures without any formal certification.

“We have opened an investigation for not having valid travel documents and overstaying,” he said, adding that the owner of the premises would also be facing action for illegally hiring foreign workers.

He said the five foreigners had been sent to the Bukit Jalil Immigration Detention Depot for further action.
