After the 24th General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in Madrid in November 2021, the group confirmed Indonesia as this year’s host of World Tourism Day, which was commemorated on Tuesday.

With the theme of “Rethinking Tourism”, the World Tourism Day event is one of the triggers for the revival of national tourism and the pursuit of quality and sustainable tourism that has a positive impact on employment and the surrounding community. This year’s events were held in Bali, Indonesia.

As the first online travel agent (OTA) in Indonesia, tiket.com contributed greatly to the event by conducting a series of national- and international-scale activities with tourism stakeholders to optimize of the occasion.

“We are proud to be trusted as a contributor in celebrating the World Tourism Day with the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry. tiket.com continuously build relationships with tourism stakeholders to jointly find solutions for the tourism industry during the pandemic. This occasion is not only a celebration, but also an opportunity that should be optimized wisely, so that it has a positive impact for all tourism parties,” said Gaery Undarsa, Co-Founder and Chief Marketing Officer of tiket.com.

Delegates were invited to participate in a tour, entitled “Magical Bali, Wonderful Indonesia Tour”, which aimed to showcase the beauty of Balinese culture through a visit to Penglipuran Tourism Village located in Bangli regency, as well as enjoying the natural beauty in Kintamani and watching a performance of the kecak dance in Uluwatu during sunset. All the activities were arranged by tiket.com with the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry. In turn, tiket.com partners gained exposure and valuable promotional opportunities as they were enjoyed by a select group of international delegates.

Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno added that this was the right time to intensify tourism development with collaboration and partnerships between stakeholders, especially to achieve the restoration of a steady and sustainable national tourism industry.

“With this World Tourism Day celebration, let’s continue progress through policy adjustments to face the challenges that are in front us. Let’s build a comprehensive socioeconomic condition of the community with the aim of improving people’s living standards, economic revival and job creation. Our target is to create 1.1 million jobs in 2022 and 4.4 million jobs by 2024,” added Sandi.

While the activity at the international level was enjoyed by the selected delegates, another activity on the national level was catered to players in the national tourism industry in Jakarta. tiket.com participated in the event, titled “Jejaring Lokal Keren”, which aims to gather and network national delegates of 200 cities and districts through Indonesia.

In this national level event, numerous seminars and talkshows are held to inspirate initiatives and partnerships to encourage an inclusive and holistic approach by prioritizing innovation, digitalization and cultural modalities as the main keys to accelerate the recovery of the national tourism ecosystem. One of the seminars, titled “Inclusively Creative: A Global Recovery”, included Dimas Surya Yaputra, Co-Fonder and Chief Commercial Officer of tiket.com as a speaker, in which he talked about the company’s best practices in navigating obstacles coming out of the pandemic.

Another event is also being held by tiket.com in Samarinda during this week of World Tourism Day, which aims to empower local tourism business owners by optimizing the use of digital marketing. This event is tiket.com’s regular activity by partnering with local tourism government office, which also has been held this year in Belitung, Banyuwangi, Tanjung Bira and Bogor for the same purpose.

“Empowerment is the main key to optimally welcome tourism recovery. By empowering business owners on an ongoing basis, the theme of Rethinking Tourism that aims to spur the rise of national tourism will undoubtedly become a reality. World Tourism Day is the perfect moment to ignite the enthusiasm of all stakeholders to work together in welcoming the potential revival of the Indonesian tourism,” said Gaery.

To commemorate the celebration, tiket.com is holding their regular Pay Day promo, with a special nod towards World Tourism Day, by giving discounted rates of up to 50 percent, and an additional extra discount of up to Rp 575,000 for all of their products. This includes domestic and/or international flights, accommodation, To-Do tickets, local train and ground transportation and more.
