BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/ANN): A cosmetic product was found to be adulterated with undeclared and banned ingredients, the Ministry of Health (MoH) announced in a press statement.
The product tested by the Laboratory of Pharmacy Section, Department of Scientific Services, MoH was found to be adulterated with undeclared and banned ingredients, the ministry said.
The cosmetic product ‘MS GLOW – DARK SPOT SERUM’, manufactured by PT Kosmetika Global, Indonesia is adulterated with hydroquinone and tretinoin.
Hydroquinone and tretinoin used in western prescription medicines to treat skin conditions, are prohibited in skincare cosmetic products under the Medicines (Cosmetic Products) Regulations, 2007.
Members of the public who purchased or are using the products are advised to stop using it immediately. They should also consult a medical practitioner if feeling unwell or experience any undesirable reactions as a result of using the products.
The sale of products (including online retail such as through Facebook, etc) is an offence under the Medicines (Cosmetic Products) Regulations, 2007.
The penalty for contravening these regulations upon conviction, is a fine not exceeding BND5,000, imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years or both.
The ministry called upon the public to report to the Compliance and Licensing Section if these products are still found in the market. – Borneo Bulletin/ANN
