BATTRA Student Association introduces Indonesian herbal beauty treatment to the international audience through REFORDU webinar

UNAIR NEWS – The use of herbal ingredients, especially in the beauty treatment in Indonesian society, was known since the kingdom era. As time passes, a guide in creating and applying it is necessary, considering that herbal ingredients have been Indonesia’s cultural heritage. Therefore, the Student Association of Traditional Medicine (HIMA BATTRA), Faculty of Vocational Studies, UNAIR held the REFORDU (Ready to Inform and Educate About Indonesian Traditional Beauty Care using Herb) webinar on Saturday, June 4, 2022.

REFORDU is a part of INTEGRATION activities planned to introduce herbal ingredients to wider society. It also could build cooperation between Universitas Airlangga and partner universities. The webinar targeted not only Indonesian students but also international students from Fujian University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

During the interview with UNAIR NEWS, the head of the event organizer, Winda, stated that REFORDU is a series of INTEGRATION activities packed in the form of webinars and workshops to introduce herbal beauty treatment in Indonesia.

“This Webinar and Workshop was carried out in three meetings with a different theme each week. On today’s webinar, we took the theme of Improve Your Elegancy with Indonesian and Chinese Herbs,” she explained.

The webinar presented two experts in their fields, a lecturer of Faculty of Pharmacy, Prof Dr Mangestuti Agil Ms Apt, who presented an Introduction of Herbal Ingredients for Traditional Indonesian Beauty. In addition, a speaker from Fujian University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Miao Zhang, was also present. She provided a presentation on the Introduction of Guasha and Chinese Herbs for Beauty.

On that occasion, Mangestuti also stated that traditional medicine (jamu) was believed to help women become attractive, healthy, and beautiful. Traditional medicine for beauty treatment could be used in two ways, internal or external.

“Internally, traditional medicine could be utilized by drinking. Externally, traditional medicine could be used as a lotion, scrub, and mask,” she said.

Winda hoped that the event could provide benefits and be implemented in everyday life in the future. “Later, herbal plants in Indonesia could be used well, following the recommendation of use and dosage,” she concluded.
