ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Indonesia consistently continues to promote batik as an instrument of diplomacy in the world, including in Southeast Asia.
As one of the products of the creative economy sector, batik which is spread throughout Southeast Asia has great potential in catalyzing the growth of the creative economy, especially for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises as well as women business actors.
To support this, the Coordinating Minister for the Indonesian Economy, Airlangga Hartarto, launched the Collaborative Batik Presentation of Indonesia for ASEAN in the series of the 57th ASEAN Anniversary Celebration which was held at the ASEAN Central Building, Jakarta, Thursday, August 8 2024.
“This initiative is in line with the ASEAN Community Vision: One Vision, One Identity, One Community, creating a strong, innovative, dynamic and community-centered ASEAN society, by showcasing our collective history, culture and traditions,” said Airlangga.
This collaborative batik initiative shows that ASEAN countries remain steadfast in preserving noble traditions and cultural heritage amidst rapid societal transformation.
The batik design launched is unique, inspired by the typical flowers of each ASEAN member country, which symbolizes the beautiful diversity of the ASEAN community.
The batik launched on this occasion has 3 designs, namely Udan Liris Sewelas Negari with a meaning full of prayer and hope, correcting shortcomings to become better. Then, Lumbon Sewelas Negari with the meaning of wisdom reflected through the harmonious relationship between humans and nature as well as social values in society, and Sekar Jagad Sewelaas Negari with the meaning of the beauty of cultural diversity in the region.
“Let us continue to support and celebrate initiatives like this that bring us closer and highlight the unique beauty and creativity of ASEAN,” concluded Airlangga.
Present on this occasion included the Secretary General of ASEAN, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia, the Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/Head of the Indonesian National Land Agency, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Laos, and the Chair of the Indonesian Cultural Heritage Foundation (WBI).
