JAKARTA, Jan. 11 (Bernama) — Several Malaysian and Indonesian tourism industry players aim to bring in at least 1,600 tourists from Indonesia to Terengganu this year by introducing affordable vacation packages.
KRDC Travel Sdn Bhd, Kembara Resort, and two Indonesian travel agencies – Habibi Tours and Travel4All – will collaborate in tourism activities following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The MoU signing was witnessed by the Director of Tourism Malaysia Jakarta, Junus Suhid, at his office at the Malaysian Embassy in Kuningan, South Jakarta, on Wednesday.
Junus, speaking to the media, said that these vacation packages align with their efforts to encourage Indonesian tourists to visit Malaysia at very reasonable and affordable prices.
“The collaboration aims to attract 1,600 Indonesian tourists, with an estimated 200 tourists per month between March and October,” he said.
Under the MoU, KRDC Travel appointed Habibi Tours and Travel4ALL to market affordable Terengganu vacation packages to the Indonesian market, priced at 1.7 million rupiah or approximately RM500 per person.
The four-day, three-night package includes accommodation at Kembara Resort in Merang, meals, a boat for island hopping, and a visit to Kampung Redang.
According to Junus, Terengganu, located on the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia, has a unique history, culture, and diverse cuisine, as well as beautiful mosques and Islamic monuments.
Tourists, especially beach enthusiasts, will enjoy the enchanting islands, allowing them to engage in diving and snorkelling activities.
When asked about trends and challenges in the tourism industry, Junus mentioned that consistently high flight ticket prices could be a barrier.
Therefore, he believes that reducing ticket prices can enhance travel and invigorate the industry.
He also urged Malaysian tourism industry players to actively promote products after the Covid-19 pandemic for the mutual benefit of stakeholders such as airlines, transportation providers, and craft entrepreneurs.
“Ensure that travel agencies are convinced that prospective tourists will have a positive and unique experience,” he said, adding that state authorities should continue with infrastructure maintenance and improvement.
