What’s your favourite spot for fried chicken in Singapore? As a true blue fried chicken fanatic, I love ’em all, be it Korean, Indonesian, American, or Thai.
“Fried chicken just tend to make you feel better about life” is one of my favourite movie quotes (from The Help, 2011) of all time, and it is so true. It is the one comfort food I can never resist, especially on days when I’m in need of a pick-me-up.
Moving beyond fast food chains like KFC, Arnold’s, and Jollibee, here are 16 places for fried chicken the next time those inevitable cravings hit. Crispy, juicy, and golden brown goodness awaits!
1. Chix Hot Chicken
Co-founded by singer Taufik Batisah, halal joint Chix Hot Chicken prides itself on being the first in Singapore to offer Nashville-style hot chicken. The unique Tennessee speciality is prepared using a Southern dry rub consisting of herbs and spices, including the infamous ghost pepper.
Put your tolerance for spice to the test, with an order of Hot Chicken (from S$11.90), dry or saucy Hot Wings (from S$10.90), or Hot Chicken Sandwiches (from S$8.90).

With outlets in Commonwealth, Boon Lay, Redhill, West Coast Drive, and Beauty World, Eng Kee Chicken Wings has gained a long-standing reputation for having some of the best fried chicken in Singapore. Each freshly fried Chicken Wing (S$1.40 per piece) is delightfully crispy, fragrant, and well-seasoned — you won’t be able to stop at one.
Pair your chicken with an order of Economical Bee Hoon (from S$0.90) alongside add-ons like Otah, Sausage, and Cabbage to make it a full meal.

4. Da Ji Hainanese Chicken Rice
Da Ji Hainanese Chicken Rice in Toa Payoh may be a fully-fledged chicken rice stall, but the Fried Chicken Wings (S$1.50 per piece) are what the crowds queue for. Don’t say I didn’t warn you — the freshly fried chicken served here is aromatic, shatteringly crispy, and seriously addictive.
For the most satisfying experience, order the Fried Chicken Wing Rice (S$3.50) and add on at least two extra wings.

5. Tuk Tuk Gai
Opened by the team behind Thai-Chinese zi char restaurant Yaowarat Seafood, Tuk Tuk Gai dishes up Thai fried chicken — the kind you can find along the streets of Bangkok. Indulge in Thai Fried Chicken Wings (S$3.80 for 2pcs, S$9.60 for 6pcs) or Thai Fried Spring Chicken (S$8.90 for half, S$15.90 for whole), which can be ordered a la carte, or with a carb of your choice.
I can definitely see the Coconut Rice with Wings (S$5.90) — Thai fried chicken wings and coconut rice served alongside chilli, ikan billis, peanuts, shallots, and a sunny side-up — being a huge hit with nasi lemak lovers.

Grilled meats and fried chicken go hand in hand at the cheekily named Grab That Chick, a popular Western stall serving up generous portions of Chicken Cutlet (S$7.50), Spring Chicken (from S$7.50), and 2pcs Chicken Waffle (S$9).
Exclusive to the Bukit Batok outlet are humongous meat platters, like the GTC Platter C (S$69.90), piled high with burgers, fried chicken, grilled sausage, luncheon fries, regular fries, tau kwa, satay, mussels, and coleslaw — each platter can easily feed four or more.

For an alternative to your usual plate of Hainanese chicken rice or nasi lemak, the Thai Fried Chicken Rice (S$4.80) and Thai Lemak Rice (S$4.80) will more than suffice. Be sure to also order a side of moreish Fried Chicken Skin (S$3.90) with homemade Thai sweet chilli sauce — it’s an incredibly addictive snack that will leave you wanting more.

8. Waffletown
Despite reopening at a new location in Clementi after a 20-year run at Balmoral Plaza, Waffletown is still a reliable go-to for those craving a taste of nostalgia.
The OG hangout spot offers some of the most old-school fried chicken in Singapore, and you can get your fix with the Clucky Lucky 3 PC Fried Chicken Meal (S$12.20) — an unpretentious plate of crispy chicken, mashed potato, and coleslaw. Kids (or the young at heart) may prefer the Fried Chicken & Waffle (S$7.20), which always tastes better with lashings of butter and maple syrup.

9. SALT.
SALT. Singapore is a jack of all trades — when it comes to fried chicken, that is.
Head straight for the hawker stall’s signature Fried Chicken Wings (S$1.20 per piece), which come in flavours like Soy Garlic, Korean Hot, and Thai Chilli Lime, before choosing from the chook-centric menu that also features fried rice, pasta, and herbal chicken soup.
However, loyal fans mostly come for the Signature Chicken Cutlet w/ Soy Garlic Fried Rice (from S$7), which boasts a glistening slab of battered fried chicken coated in a sweet and savoury sauce, perched atop fragrant fried rice. A feast for all the senses, indeed!

10. Birdfolks
Yet another under-the-radar spot for fried chicken in Singapore is Birdfolks, a cafe in Clementi dishing out American-style fried chicken (the kind you’d find served at a diner) with an Asian twist.
Each double-battered and deep-fried piece of fried chicken sports a dark, caramelised crust, thanks to a special brine of honey, dark brown sugar, and spices. Regardless of whether you order the Fried Tenderthighs (S$14), Chicken & Pancakes (S$14), or Mentaiko Chicken Burger (S$17), don’t forget to wash it all down with a cup of sock-pulled Nanyang Kopi.

12. Waker Chicken
The Korean-owned Waker Chicken is undeniably one of my top spots for Korean fried chicken in Singapore. Choose from crowd-pleasing flavours like Sweet Spicy, Soy Sauce, and the sweet, milky, and mildly savoury Honey Butter (an acquired taste, that’s for sure), and you’re in for an irresistible treat!
Getting your fried chicken fix is also easy — there are a whopping eight outlets dotted around the island, with three (New Upper Changi, Bukit Batok and Holland) that are halal-certified.

13. Oven & Fried Chicken
Any discerning fried chicken aficionado ought to be familiar with the popular Oven & Fried Chicken, which has three outlets in Tanjong Katong, Telok Ayer, and Beauty World.
The menu offers three types of Korean fried chicken: rice flour-coated fried chicken, roasted chicken, and even a”healthier” oven-baked Crunch Chicken. You can dip the chicken in a sauce of your choice, but I prefer to enjoy it served piping hot and coated with Sauced Jambalaya, Yang Nyeom, or my personal favourite, Sauced Garlic.

14. O Chicken & Beer
Evidently, I could go on and on about Korean fried chicken. If you fancy fried chicken and beer by the river, hit up O Chicken & Beer at Boat Quay, an ideal spot for post-work gatherings.
Order the Yang Nyum Fried Chicken, alongside tasty Korean fare like cheesy tteokbokki and seafood pancake, as well as a round of beers, and you’re all set! Do note that the restaurant does not take reservations, so come early if you want to snag those highly coveted alfresco seats.

15. Mrs. Hen
Have yet to immerse yourself in the wondrous world of ayam geprek, or “crushed” Indonesian fried chicken? You are seriously missing out.
Those new to the fiery and crispy chicken dish should check out Mrs. Hen, a speciality joint offering different variations of “spicy and juicy” Ayam Geprek (from S$8.20), including the likes of Sambal Hijau (green chilli), Sambal Mangga (mango chilli) and a non-spicy Saus Telur Asin (salted egg sauce).
Opt for nasi (white rice), nasi kuning (yellow rice), or indomie, and bulk it up with add-ons like Perkedel (potato patties), Fried Egg, or Fried Chicken Skin (S$5.50).

16. Happy Geprek
Some say Happy Geprek is home to the best ayam geprek in Singapore, but you can be the judge of that by stuffing yourself silly at this authentic, no-frills joint in Far East Plaza.
Pair your fried chicken with rice (S$6.50), indomie (S$7), or spicy mee (S$7), and choose from a selection of sambal with varying spice levels, like Ijo, Cumi, Kecap, and Udang, just to name a few. You can also find other Indonesian classics like Pempek Palembang (traditional fried fish cake) and Bihun Bakso (beef ball soup with vermicelli on the menu).
